A Few Poems Written in the Sun

1

A sister is a cloud
A brother is a forest
A mother is an ocean
A father is something no one really understands,
not even him

2

The tiny radiant boy
Says a prayer for all of us
He talks for something that goes through him
like light through a clean window pane

3

We can leave this place
anytime we want
The mind is a vacation
we decide not to take

4

The man could be crazy
We could be crazy
The world could be crazy
If we can’t tell, maybe not?

5

As a kid you live
each day as it comes
At some point you start planning
without knowing more

6

Nonsense is different from sense
in that sense is trapped
by an obvious definition

7

A bear here is a bear there
A girl there cannot be a girl here
An old man is wherever he wants to be
(in our heads we all have an old man,
we all want to be an old man, so
an old man is everywhere)

8

The sun will never leave you
Even as your limbs lose feeling
Even as you can’t remember
Seems like we pick the wrong lovers

And the warmth of a finger of sun
Can make you well
Can make you feel that, well,
Perhaps
This is it
